Instructions for use

We advise that this template is firstly evaluated and tested in a non-production scenario to ensure the configured settings are suitable for your requirements.

  1. Launch the EM Console and connect to the Personalization Server/Database
  2. Navigate to the XML Template via the Tools > Import option
  3. Leave all options ticked and click OK
  4. If a Resolve Conflicts dialog appears, leave Actions as Replace All (Note - Any OOB Windows Settings Groups will not have their Default Custom Settings replaced, a settings merge will occur)
  5. Assign the Imported Groups (ordinarily either Application or WSG Groups) to the relevant Personalization Group

Note: This template, when used, may include Chrome generated log files, which can grow in size, causing personalization settings for Chrome to grow large too.

To alleviate this, exclusions for the Chrome Windows Settings Group may need to be manually added, however, these .log files can be stored within any sub-folder of %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default.

E.g., When enabling a Webex and GoToMeeting plugin, .log files were found in the following folders:

  • CSIDL_APPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\ooonkoejkmhiacbhhkdgfeemioceapbh
  • CSIDL_APPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Sync Data\LevelDB
  • CSIDL_APPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Session Storage
  • CSIDL_APPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Storage\ext\gfdkimpbcpahaombhbimeihdjnejgicl\def\Platform Notifications
  • CSIDL_APPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Storage\ext\nmmhkkegccagdldgiimedpiccmgmieda\def\Platform Notifications
  • CSIDL_APPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Sync Extension Settings\pkedcjkdefgpdelpbcmbmeomcjbeemfm
  • CSIDL_APPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\ghbmnnjooekpmoecnnnilnnbdlolhkhi

So the exclusion required would need to be all of the above Folders with *.log in the File Name field and the Exclude option checked.

Please Note: To use these solutions, first download and install the unpackager tool from here and use it to open the solution.
